Hi I have owned a Volkswagen golf 1.8 gti turbo for 6 months which I brought used from the auto trader. The car has cut out repeatedly since ive brought sometimes it restatrs again when i turn on the engine at other times it will not restart at all not even after jumpstarting the battrey. I have noticed that it mainly happens when pressing the brakes(the steering wheel locks and the engine cuts off)This is an ongoing problem that no local mechanic has been able to solve however I was told by an AA mechanic that the battrey was not supplying the engine sufficently due to a loose wire which when corrected the car did improve but the problem is now starting to worsen what could this be? are there any common faults with this type of car?

my car is an older model it is a 1998 so it is 10 years older then the new model so im not sure wether this would still apply to my car?
also would it be to late now to take my car back to the dealer? don't they just deal with newer cars/with warranty?

Hi
When when the car cuts out/looses power the abs signal flashes the steering wheel locks and the engine cuts off. It makes no noise when it cuts off and doesn't crank, stall or shudder as it is cutting off. Also at times with a light press of the brakes sometimes the abs will flash and the steering wheel will lock for a split second without the car loosing power or cutting off. The car also tends to cut off when driving at very slows speeds/crawling or very fast speeds.
when turning sharp corners or during 3 point turns however the car does stall and makes a whining noise when turning the wheel.
An AA mechanic fitted me with a new battrery but after testing the new battery he told me that the engine still wasn't being supplied with enough power. He then tightened a wire he said was connecting the battery to the engine which helped for a while but the problem has come back
