I HAVE A VERY BAD GAS ODOR INSIDE MY VAN THERE ARE NO GAS LEAKS NO SMELL UNDER HOOD BELIEVE SAME PROBLEM IN 1998 DEALER SAID GAS GOT INTO THE OVERFLOW CONTAINER WENT TO 2 DIFERENT SERVICE CENTER THEY COULD NOT FIND CONTAINER . LIKE TO KNOW WERE   1997 MECURY VILLAGER

ALL THAT WAS PRETTY WELL CHECKED. WHAT I AM FOCUSING ON IS WHAT THE MECURY DEALER TOLD ME WHEN I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM IN 1978 THEY SAID THE GAS TANK WAS OVER FILLED AND GAS WENT INTO THE OVERFILL CONTAINER NOW WHAT THEY DID TO CORRECT IT AND WERE THE CONTAINER IS WHAT I WANT TO KNOW. THANK YOU FOR YOU HELP

Hello,

It really isn't an over flow canister. Your vehicle has a charcoal canister used to vent fuel vapor from tank and it is located behind the air cleaner in the engine compartment. Vehicle today are not equipped with an over flow tank. EPA won't allow it.

Relist: I still need help.
I THINK I MY OF FOUND THE PROBLEM THERE A 1/16 RO. HOLE BELOW THE GAS CAP THAT SEEM TO BE PLUGED IT LOOK LIKE A VENT HOLE SO I PASS A WIRE THRU IT I BEEN RUNNING THE VAN FOR 1 HR. AND IT SEEM THE PROBLEM IS CLEAR . CAN THIS BE EXPLAINED TTO ME.
