We have a 1992 Dodge Ram B250 Van with 147,853 miles. We just had a tune up
On hills the van barely had power to go up. We get black smoke from the exhaust
pipe. The van drinks gas fast. We replaced the fuel filter, EGR, and oxygen sensor.
There is no change in performance.

Optional Information:
1992 Dodge B250 5.2L

Already Tried:

Greetings! U could have a bad fuel pump. I would rec to check fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. Both must be checked before replacing the pump. U can get a fuel pressure gauge at a local auto parts store for cheap. Good luck let me know.

What is the cause of the black smoke from the
exhaust? We put in one bottle of fuel system
cleaner.

We are here laughing at your answer. We know it is carbon monoxide. But is it from burning too
much oil or fuel.

Well now this is another question.

Have u been adding oil? If not, than its probably not burning oil.
As far as the gas goes, u wont know until a fuel pressure gauge is hooked up!

So if the fuel pressure is low there is no power
to go up hill. but what causes the van to use up
the gas fast. I burned 1/4 tank just to go 6 miles. What is the cause of this.

If the fuel pressure is high this would cause the smoking and the gas to be burned up quick. Maybe the computor is seeing that and leaning out the fuel injectors. If the fuel pressure is low than that could cause low power. An lazy o2 sensor would definatly cause this problem also. The only way to find out for sure is by doing some testing. Check fuel pressure and let me know.
