We have a 1994 Dodge Ram van. The a/c was charged on 6/5/06. The next day after running the van w/ a/c it would not restart after aprox 45 mins of driving. This happened each time the a/c was used and the van has to sit at least 2 hours before it will start. One time it stoppped while driving. on 6/12/ it went in for repairs and the Dist pick up and coil were replaced. still didn't fix it. The only time this happens is when a/c is used. A friend looked at it and stated it was odd but there is no spark Since we had no a/c last summer and this started the following day after having a/c charged that the only thing he could figure was the ignition switch. Any ideas???

Hello Lynn, I think its just a coincededce that your ac is on while this occurs.

It sounds like you are loosing your (ASD) auto shutdown circuit. This is the dark green and orange wire that goes to your coil. If you loose power here you also loose spark.

When this occurs you will need to check this wire, with a test light. There is an asd relay, in the black box (power distribution center) under the hood. Locate the relay, they are labled inside the cover. When the van dies out pull out the relay and swap it with a similer one like the horn relay. If it starts you know that the relay is bad. Let me know how it goes.

Hi I forgot to tell you that we have run the van 10 x's each for 20 to 40 minutes. % with a/c on 5 w a/c off. The van failed to start after each a/c test

If you are loosing spark it is important to test the asd circuit. The A/c and your ignition system are not related. It is more important to find out why you have no spark after the vehicle is warmed up.
