Does it seem to crank forever before it actually starts?

You can go to the vehicle and turn the key on and see if you see a security or anti-theft light. When the car won't start how long does it take to restart?

When it does not start and you use starting fluid, it will start with no problem?

A 2000 chevy astro van with 98,000 miles is difficult to start. once it starts it runs without problems. It will start with starting fluid.

These engines use a high pressure fuel pump and are very criticle to fuel pressure. A loss of only 2 PSI can give the the symptoms you describe. I suggest you test the fuel pressure using an accurate fuel pressure tester. It requires a minimum of 55PSI to start.

Just for your info, you do have a theft deterrent system in that vehicle and there should be a security light there somewhere.

The fuel pump was replaced 6 months ago, would you suggest replacing the fuel filter?
