on a 1997 GMC Safari Van where is the shift solenoid

on a 1997 GMC Safari Van where is the shift solenoid located for the transmission and how do i fix it because it is malfunctioning. When I cut the van off the solenoid resets but when I take off and it shifts the first time it does it hard and it get stuck in a lower gear.

Hi,

The shift solenoids are located inside the transmission within the valve body. To access, you will need to drop the transmission pan, then remove the transmission filter. At that point you can remove the valve body.

Take your time in removing valve body, noting where each bolt comes out. They have to be re-installed in the same location. Make sure you note where each spring comes out of valve body. If the valve body is not put back together exactly as it came out, you will trash your transmission when you test drive it.
