I have a 1997 safari van and while I was driving the van started missing real bad.  It died 3 or 4 times, but it always started back after some encouragement.  I drove the van home running like this.  About a mile from home it stopped running bad and was back to normal.   I drove it the next weekend and it ran normal.  The next time I had the same problem, misfireing and running real ruff and dying.  I had a " check Ingine Light" so I checked with a code reader and it showed that it was a misfire problem.  The next time I tried the van it ran fine again.  A week later I drove around the block and it was fine until I got home and started running bad again.  I had to start it 3 times in the drive way and after the third time it started running OK again.....   The rotor and cap was replaced last year, but I only drove less than 500 miles... Can you help?

Optional Information:
1997 GMC Safari 6cyl

Already Tried:
New gas, heet, and injector cleaner....

Hello, you may have a egr valve sticking open at times. if the egr valave sticks open it dumps to much exhaust gases back into the engine, and the engine will usually shake real bad at lower rpms and also die out. to verfy this you might want to unplug the egr valve electrical connector and drive to see if problems goes away. but i must tell you when you unplug the egr valve, the check engine light will come on.

it is mounted front top engine just under the thermostat.
