Question

starter looks like it bolts up cocked in the bell housing

starter in 1985 chevy truck turns motor over very slow and sounds like the soliniod is making clicking sound.starter looks like it’s at an angle when tigen up. have exchanged the starter 3 times. will not turn over motor properly.

 what size motor 350? sounds like a low torqe stater you may have a high compression motor or just not enough cranking amps ,you might need a bigger battry ,big block motors do the same thing ,a high torqe starter cost more but will solve problem if you have high compression , i had the same problem with a 455, my starter was standard so i replaced it with a high torqe and fixed it....

Response to Mechel118's Post: It's a V6 , it turned over fine when it was running. The owner did a valve job on it. we put a slightly higer cracking amps battery. It seem like it a low battery because of the clicking sound,but the motor turns over slowly.It also seem like it's not fully engaging the flywheel . It's got us stumped because of the years my dad and my self have been putting stock motors back together we have never run across a problem like this.

 did you have to shem the starter? if you didnt you may need to ,and did you use a new starter?
