MY NEIGHBOR HAS A 1984 SILVERADO UTILITY TRUCK IT HAS A 5.7LITRE MOTOR WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WHEN HE TRYS TO PUT IT IN REVERSE HE IS GETTING A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE FROM THE TRANSMISSION, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PROBLEM IS A WORN OUT GEAR? IT WORKS FINE IN ALL FORWARD GEARS NO NOISE.

he opened the differntial & everything there seems normal i think he's on the wrong track!

Sounds like it may not be engauging all the way in reverse, or his reverse gear is worn out.
