I have a 1989 Ford F-150, 5.0 EFI, with 80,000 miles on it. I changed out the sending unit in the saddle gas tank to fix the gas guage and now the truck total dies on occasion. It usually starts back up if it is rolling but sometimes not. To fix the stalling I have replaced the fuel filter, distributor cap, spark plugs, plug wires, rotor, and ignition module but it still stalls. It did not stall prior to the sending unit change.

Reply to MechanicMan's Post: No, there is a saddle tank and a rear tank. The rear has never worked so I have always used the saddle tank.

Hello

First we need to establish we have good fuel pressure at all times. Hook a fuel pressure gage up and drive with it. You may also want to re-inspect all lines and connectors going to fuel pump.

When it stalls does it immediately restart or do you have to crank a little while??? Give as much detal as possible. If you have any quetions just ask

Reply to MechanicMan's Post: When it stalls it has always been running and rolling. It stalls hard, the truck rolls a few feet, and then it starts back up. Twice it has failed to start back up. One time I stopped, turned the key and it started right up. The second time it would not start immediately but after 15 minutes or so of sitting it started. Again, it did none of this prior to installing the new sending unit which was done due to the gas guage not working. There was no trash in the tank and the screen on the old sending unit was clean.

Hello

Lets start with checking fuel pressure while stalling, this way we can eliminate fuel system. Did you replace fuel pump with sending unit??

Reply to MechanicMan's Post: The EFI version of the 1989 F-150 has a small fuel pump in the sending unit that as I understand it is to only pressurize the line. I obviously replaced that as it is part of the sending unit assembly. I did not replace the fuel pump which is located on the frame rail a few feet from the tank going toward the front of the truck.
