Question

1987 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 V6 and automatic trans

Sent to Car Experts August 21, 2006 12:34 a.m.

I have a 1987 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 V6 and automatic transmission, I am the original owner and the truck has 85K miles on it.
When I place the transmission in park the truck will roll if parked on any kind of incline. There is also a distinct sound from the transmission like the flywheel is overiding the locking pin.
What needs to be done to correct this problem and roughly how much will it cost to have it repaired.
Thanks

The pan needs to come down It sounds like the parking pawl isn't engaging .Depending on what's found you may wind up having to dig into the transmission.
