Question

I have a 1986 Ford F150 4X4 that when I put more than a 1/2 tank of fuel into the tank you can smell strong gasoline fumes. I've checked under the truck and sometimes the tank is damp on the upper front portion, but I can find no leaks. The way the tank is mounted you can not see the top of the tank or the where the filler tube connects to the tank. Could there possibility be a bad hose on the filler tube or vent tube, or do you thing the tank may have rusted through on the top side. Any suggests will be greatly appreicated. Thanks     Jimbo

Hi jimbo I hope I can help you herethe thing that really makes me think here you say you feel dampness on the upper part of the tank so this does lead me to think that lee fuel leak is up top of the tank so no matter what it sounds like i would be droping the fuel tank you may have rubbed a small hole in top of tank you may have the fuel pump o ring leaking it could be a hose but you are gonna have to drop tank to see i would also check my fuel canester hope this helps thanks al
