94 sonoma transmission problem

my 94 sonoma truck wont shift into o drive or drive. if i take off in 1st or 2nd then shift to od or d it kicks into gaer at about 30 to 40 mph. when moving and press the peddle to passing gear the trans slips but the faster im going the less it slips. sometime it makes like a roaring noise from take off in 1st gear.could this be my torque converter. it almost feels like it low on transmission fluid but its not. the truck has 90000 miles on it.
