I have a 1988 Ford F-150 Problrms is the key will turn to on and accessory position but it will not turn starter. When in acc. position all lights work(getting juice). The key has been stuck in column for years, but now it feels too easy (almost floppy) to turn and does not have any bounceback or returnOptional Information: 1988 Ford F150 5lAlready Tried: Nothing-Looking for confirmation of what I think. If it is tumbler, approx. how much for someonr to fix and is abutton switch (hidden) feasable?

REPLIED Check Mark

From the sounds of it you have a truck with tilt steering wheel. There is an actuator that goes from the key cylinder to the rod that travels along the column to the electrical ignition switch. This actuator is made out of white medal and breaks very easy. I have replaced many of these because they break so frequently. They cost maybe $15 and labor is around an hour. They arent that bad to change. I cannot find repair info, but the steering wheel needs to come off and the ignition lock tumbler needs to com out. The whole upper part of the steering column needs to be disassembled.

Thereis no tilt steering and no airbags. Does actuater control turning tension and springback after car is started so the starter does not continue to turn?
