I have a 76 Chevrolet K 20 pick up truck with a auto ...

I have a 76 Chevrolet K 20 pick up truck with a auto transmision ,When puting from park to drive (on colum)i dont have a solid lock in the shift handle to keep it in drive and when i want to put in reverse i have to search for the correct position.
My question : How to adjust/repair this ?
