I have a 1992 Chevy Regular Cab Short Bed Pickup. V6, 5 spd, A/C. 160 K + miles. Got a problem getting it to pass smog insp. In the process went down for fuel pump failure. Engine uses oil and trans has been reworked about 3 times sence new and is still not right. Plan to keep this truck but would like to make it a little stronger in the H/P department with a good standard trans. Hope to get fairly good gas mileage and keep it for another 13 or more years. Can I rebuild my engine to get more power or should I go for a V8? What should I do about the transmission? I talked to a few folks and got a lot reccomendations. Like - "Don't change a thing, repair what you have". "You will have problems if try to put something in that did not come standard with the truck". "Make it a great truck by putting in a GM Crate motor along with a 6 speed trans". Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Melvin Hurd

I think your friends are giving you some pretty good advice, especially if you need to pass emissions tests in your state. You can upset the emissions monitors prety easily by trying to change things.
