Question

My question concerns checking the oil of a Subaru

Sent to Car Experts November 02, 2007 12:33 p.m.

My question concerns checking the oil of a Subaru Forester. I have noticed that the oil always appear to be low when the engine is cold. Whenever the engine is even the slightest bit warm, the oil seems fine. I was wondering if the car needs to have been started for a short time before checking the oil, or if there is a leak I need to be worried about.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

I would check the engine oil level when the car has sat overnight, if the level is low add enough to bring it to the full mark on the dipstick. Then drive a few days and recheck after it sat overnight. This will let you know for sure if you are losing any oil.The level can change when the engine is warm due to expansion from heat.
