Sent to Car Experts October 18 10:10 AM

2002 Subaru Legacy Wagon, 90,000 miles - Fuel tank vacuum unit has caused Check Engine Light suddenly to come on at highway speeds and stay on until reset. Dealer has reset the computer and cleaned out the associated tubing, etc. several times, but the problem reappears. What next should be done to correct this malfunction? Does the computer logic trigger the light for a single "failure", or does it require several "failures" detected before coming on?

WOW,,is it tomarrow already :-)

Here is the technical read on that code. It may not make alot of sense, but basically it comes down to a leak in the Evaporative emissions system that keeps the fuel vapors from entering the atsmophere.

I have also included a diagram showing all of the components in the system, look for any of the small hoses to be disconnected.

ALSO,,,i have seen faulty gas caps cause this same code many, many times. It has to completly seal, or it leaks and the computer picks it up. You may not be able to visably see if its bad, and you might just want to take a chance and just replace it.
