I have a 1998 Subaru with 140,000 miles on it that I don't plan to keep much longer. The life of the transmission is limited anyhow. One spark plug hole is stripped. Is there a cheap way to repair it? or     could the plug be permanently fused in place? If it ever has to be pulled again - I'd just plant to replace the head at that time. Probably not me anyhow. What do you think? How can this be done? and is it cheaper than thread repair?

I already know about those things. You did't really answer my question. If fusing a plug in an old car I don't care about is impossible or just a dumb idea please tell me.

Do you need to be super careful to keep metal pieces out of the cylinder? Does a Subaru have cast iron heads or aluminum? It's harder with aluminum heads - isn't it?

You should be as careful as possible. If you lose a little, it's not the end of the world. With the kit, the shavings will fall to the outside- the heads sit on the side of the motor which will help this.

The heads are made of aluminum. This is actually easier to repair than cast. The rethreader will be easier to use in aluminum.
