Remove the spark plugs and wires one at a time to avoid confusion and miswiring during installation.

  1. Before removing the spark plugs, number the plug wires so that the correct wire goes on the plug when replaced. This can be done with pieces of adhesive tape.

  2. Next, clean the area around the plugs by blowing with compressed air. You can also loosen the plugs a few turns and crank the engine to blow the dirt away.

  3. Disconnect the plugs wires by twisting and pulling on the rubber cap, not on the wire.

  4. Remove each plug with a rubber insert spark plug socket. make sure that the socket is all the way down on the plug to prevent it from slipping and cracking the porcelain insulator.

  5. Gap the New Spark Plugs ( 3.0=.039-.043 , 3.3 & 3.8=.048-.053 ) & Install into Spark Plug Hole. Tighten to apprx. 20 ft.lbs.

  6. Replace Spark Plug wire.

Replace Spark Plugs on a Cool Engine:
The Spark Plugs closest to the Firewall will be a little tedious, but stick with it, you can get them out. You may have to use different Extensions or put your Arm thru from the back side to get to them.

Are you nuts ? The problem is not with how to identify and gap the plugs , but with how do you get at the 3 plugs by the firewall. They are are under and behind an air intake cowel.

I haven't been certified as NUTS, but if you have read the bottom section, it is a tedious job. You will have to either stretch a little by sliding your arm thru from the Front Alternator area or get to them from the Bottom. That is another reason I mentioned to do this on a Cool Engine. There is really NO easy way of removing them. Especially the furthest one.
