  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Disconnect the electrical harness from the coil pack.

  3. Label and remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coil terminal towers. To remove the wires, squeeze the locking tabs to release the coil boot retainers.

  4. Remove the coil pack mounting screws and remove the coil pack.

To install:

  1. Install the coil pack and the retaining screws. Tighten the retaining screws to 44-61 inch lbs. (5-7 Nm).

Lubricate the terminals with dielectric compound prior to installing the spark plug wires.

  1. Connect the spark plug wires and electrical harness to the coil pack.

  2. Connect the negative battery cable.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: I have this picture and information. On autozone, this is free. I need to know what to do if the engine is still in the vehicle. For some reason, no one wants you to know what needs to be moved out of the way and how so that you can get to this process.

I have to disagree. If you were to look at the engine, seeing as how I just did this, you have 4 options:

1) remove the cover off the engine block
2) remove the air filter and housing
3) remove 1 and 2
4) try replace without removing anything.

Now seeing as how the cover has 16 3" - 5/16" hex head machine bolts that are holding it in place you must remove these first.

But,there is a wire harness along the backside where you cannot see, that is held onto this cover with 2 plastic bolts about 2 inches long which must be pushed out while applying considerable pressure in a downward motion to the cover so that each can be removed.

Now that the wire harness is free, you are not yet done. Because the intake must be remove by removing three bolts, but which three, because one you cannot see.

Then you must remove part of the air filter unit which has a clasp in the center and you must loosen the bracket on the leftside so that this section of the air filter housing can be removed.

Once this is done, you realize that there are 3 wiring connectors on the backside of the cover that you cannot see and therefore, cannot determine how they are connected. Attempting to just pull them out of position like the electrical connector to the ignition coil, does not work.

Oh, I forgot the pvc on the air filter housing. you must remove this in order to move this part of the housing out of the way, so that you can access the coil.

Anyway, the reason that I, as well as other people pose questions, is so that they can obtain an in depth response from someone who is supposedly an expert.

If the information obtained from Autozones website, which looks much like a feeble chiton's blow up, I would not have bothered to waste money on this site.

If you are the "master mechanic" I would think that providing a "simple" and in depth outline of what to do would be without challenge for you.

I will think of you as I visit a mechanic in the morning.

Regards
