I have a 95 saturn sl dohc.It will not run with the fuel pump fuse in place but will idle for 20 minutes with it out. add the fuse and it floods the cylinders. replaced the regulator, coolant temp sen, ecm and ignition control module. please help!!!! once the car runs for about twenty minutes with the fuel pump fuse you can out the fuse in for about two seconds and no more than two seconds, it will run again with the fuse out only.

will the car run with the fuse in it or does it completely flood out. you might have to put a performance fuel regulator that u can adjust

Slow down here. You need to start finding out exactly what is happening when that fuse is installed. You need to install a fuel pressure gauge and a scan tool would be very helpfull also. You need to find out EXACTY what changes when that fuse goes in. I don't think it has anything to do with fuel pressure. That is a bypass system meaning it doesn't matter how much pressure the pump has, the regulator will bypass all of the excess back to the tank. I suspect something may be shorting the injecter signal wires somehow. Another thing you could try is to get a noid light and plug it into one of the injecters and watch what happens to the pulse when you plug that relay in. Once you know what event this is triggering, it will be easier to find out why.

So, what changes when the relay is plugged in.

Did the fuel pressure change?

Did the pulse width change?

Did the O/2 readings spike?

You said it was flooding the cylinders. That's not what the O/2 is saying. You say the fuel pressure drops on acceleration, that's the opposite of what it should do. It should increase about 5-10lbs if the regulator is working properly.

Try momentarily pinching off the fuel return hose and see how high the fuel pressure jumps.

what you have to remember is that the fuel pump is off because the fuse is removed, which is the reason for the fuel pressure drop. if i put the fuse back in the pressure increases but it floods the cylingers and the engine stalls.

within 2 seconds of installing the fuse the engine is flooded and stalls. readings are almost impossible pressure starts to increase 02 goes crazy...it does spike. the fumes are so strong once the fuse is installed that the shop has to be evacutated.

OK, so what does the fuel pressure gauge say without the engine running and the fuse installed?

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: fuel pressure increases, spray pattern is wider, o2 spikes, cars dies.when fuse is put in with car running, car will not start with fuse installed it has to be started with the fuse out.
