2000 saab 95 check engine light on and car is sluggish from a stop. seems to run fine when up to speed. It did it a couple of weeks ago, then went away. It seems to do it after driving and stopping and then restarting. I am 400 miles from home and wonder if it is safe to drive back without causing damage.

Optional Information:
2000 Saab 9-5 v-6

Already Tried:
nothing but stopping.

REPLIED Check Mark

I would bring it into a shop and have a diagnostic check for codes done before driving that far, you need to find out why the check engine light is on first, I dont think it will cause damage but it may leave you on the side of the road.Once you know what codes are being stored and why, then you can make the decision if you want to get it fixed right away or not.

I had the codes checked at the dealer. There was a P705 Transmission range switch input incorrect, and also a code B 2380 circulation pump open circuit short to ground.

He said I need a neutral position switch $338.50 plus 3 hrs labor.

He would have to order the part so he said I should be able to get home ok and have it fixed there.

would you concur with this?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Absolutely, the range sensor tells the processor what gear range you have the shifter in, park, reverse, neutral, od, etc.It is getting a faulty reading at times. If for some reason it causes the car not to start in park, try starting it in neutral, you should be fine to make a 400 miles trip
