Sent to Car Experts September 06, 2006 1:56 p.m.

Hello ... I am about to head off to the junkyard and get an alternator out of a 1988 saab 9000............. to replace the alternator in my 1988 saab 900...... will this work? Is it dangerous to try? And.... it's two bolts right?? I know it's in a tight space right in front of the firewall since I've already poked around on my 900.... anyway, an info. ASAP would be really appreciated. Hi Dave. It isn't dangerous and it should swap out but if you ask the junk yard before you go there they have interchange books that will tell you exactly. It has been about 7 years since I had to swap alternators on a 900 and it wasn't easy. Good luck and call the junk yard first, if they don't know call another one and have them verify that it will work.

thanks a lot for a quick response, I'll have to look into the interchange books you mentioned to know for sure... but until then, you said it wasn't easy swapping out, I thought it was two bolts basicly, and a tensioner? Any info about the actual swap out would really help me better decide weather I should even bother with the junk yard visit at all. Anything you can remember would be really helpful. Thanks again.
