My 1999 Saab 9-5 just failed SMOG due to check eng lights on. The SMOG guy said it's a vehicle speed sensor.   (I do have abs, and check eng light on chronically). Is this an expensive repair. I love my saab, but dont want to dump a ton of $$$ into passing SMOG.

Optional Information:
1999 Saab 9-5 SE 4 cylinder turb

Just got the smog results this weekend. Called my saab repairman, who suggested I bring it in. Before I do, I'd like an idea of what I am facing. I dont want to pour alot of $$ into a 1999 car. BTW, the emmission passed, its the check engine, abs lights that are tripping me up. Also my speedomoter and odometer are not working. I suspect its all the same problem. ABS module needs replacing???

Greetings,

I would get the codes to see if the repairs could be expensive. You could go to a parts store and most will check the trouble codes for free. Get back to me and I will research the codes and the most common causes and we can go from there.

Good luck Mike

Thanks Mike for your quick reply. I think I have 1 code on my smog failure notice. Its

P0502 vehicle Speed Sensor CKT Low Input.

Does this make any sense? I have just once saab dealership in Sacramento that I have had a bad experiences with, so I'd like to avoid them. I do have a saab mechanic that I'd like to run your suggestions by.

Appreciate your help.
