Question

brakes on a 93 saturn

Sent to Car Experts October 03, 2006 1:02 p.m.

93 Saturn. Every so often the brakes will fail (pedal hits the floor with no braking action). It will happen and then the brakes will work fine, there is some noise when tihs occurs. I checked the brake fluid, full, so no leaks. I checked the pads and rotors and everything seems to be fine. Help please.

When the pedal fails do you need to pump it back up or will it be okay after you release it?

The most likely cause of your problem is a bad master cylinder. It may be leaking internally and is allowing fluid to bypass the seals at certain times. This would cause the peadl to go to the floor and the vehicle would have no external leaks. I would change the master cylinder.

Yes, it is the part that you put the fluid into. Make sure you replace it with a new one and not a rebuilt one. Let me know if you have any questions about replacing it.
