Question

speedometer needle bounce

Sent to Car Experts November 27, 2004 7:36 a.m.

After washing the under body and engine compartment of my wrangler YJ the speedometer quit, than when it starting working again the needle would bounce from 30 mph to 80 mph while driving. Then when I ran through a puddle the speedometer wouldn’t register, then it would start to bounce again, it doesn’t do it all the time.I tried disconnecting the speedometer sender and blowing it out but the needle still bounces, sometimes at a dead stop.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Find the plug on the speedometer output of the transmision, unplug it and dry off the electric conections on both ends of the plug this should solve your problem. Also make sure that the plug is tight when you put it back together.

PS; The plug may be located on the tranfer case.

Response to enginboy's Post: I tried that before, it didn't work the first time, I guess I'll try it again. You can reach me at ottohowler@aol.com, that way I can get a quicker response
