i have a '94 olds ciera and the cooling fan

i have a '94 olds ciera and the cooling fan doesn't work. i replaced the sending unit but nothing. i hooked the fan to the battery directly and the fan worked. what gives?

1994 Oldsmobile ciera

Already Tried:
checked all connectors and replaced relay. this car is in NH and i am in mass.i am asking as a favor

Hi

You need to check the fan switch and its wiring. The switch is temperature sensitive and I think it is screwed into the radiator.

i just called them and they said they changed the temp unit. is this the same as the " relay" ?

No, not unless that is what they meant when they said relay. The thermal switch works on the coolant temperature. They are usually fitted to the radiator.

If they have changed this and it still does not kick in when the engine gets hot then you need to check the wiring to the fan and switch.
