Question

wheelbearing replacement on 1998 Town & Country

Sent to Car Experts July 10, 2006 11:27 a.m.

I have a 1998 Town & country that needs a front wheel bearing. How do I get it off? If I get a rotor from the junk yard will the bearing already come in it? I have heard on some of the newer vehicles when you replace the rotor only the rotor comes off. In the past my experience (we are talking 20 years ago) has been the whole thing comes off with the rotor (studs, bearing & race).

Optional Information:
1998 Chrysler Town & Country

the rotor is separate from the rest of the system. These are inexpensive get a new one if it is needed.the wheel (or hub)bearing is not hard to change.Remove the wheel and the brake caliper and rotor.Remove the axle nut,Remove the nut on the ball joint, take a long pry bar and stick it between the frame and the lower control arm.pry down and remove the ball joint stud from the lower control arm.pull out the strut and remove the axle from the bearing. There are 3 bolts that hold the bearing(or hub assembly)remove these 3 bolts and remove the bearing assembly.Reverse to install making sure you torque the bolts to specs(available at auto zone.com) I hope this helps, please click accept. Thanks
