hello ..bob helfrich here.i have 1999 taurus. the the hearterdoor does not open .the dealer says the hindges are broke...cost to fix 900.00 ? can i do it my self or im i in trouble? thanks bob helfrich

If it's the heater door your referring to, then yes, the entire dash has to be removed and the the whole HVAC box has to be removed and disassembled. You only hope might be if the problem was one of the external vacuum controls causing it. I assume they checked that already though.
