3.4L DOHC timing belt problems

Sent to Car Experts September 11, 2005 1:44 p.m.

While changing the timing belt on a 1991 Olds Cutlass Supreme with a 3.4L DOHC engine, I completely lost the timing. There appear to be no timing marks. How do I rectify this problem

ACCEPTED Check Mark

The camshafts don't have any timing marks. It requires a special set of tools, 2 of which clamp the camshafts down in a fixed position. In fact the rear camshafts round out of sequence with the front ones. This is done through movable pulleys. You really have to have the tools. This engine can give you nightmares without it.
