i have a 2001 car with 40,000 miles on it. It has been sitting in my driveway on a flat tire for a year, without the engine being turned over. What do I need to do to get this car operational and guesstimate of cost?

Hello and thank you for choosing Just Answer.

You will need to take out the battery and have it charged and possibly replaced.

You also will need to have the fuel tank drained and new fuel needs to be put in the tank.

You will need to drain the oil and put new oil in.

Spark plugs are suggested but not a must. Finally the tire need to be changed/ fixed.

A rough estimate would be $200-$300 to get the car running again.

Should I have it towed to a mechanic to have those things done? Do I need to worry about a tune up? Is there a chance my axle might be bent because of sitting on the flat tire so long?

You should see if you can find a mobile mechanic who can come to your house and to the job. It's not a huge job, the only thing will be draining the tank. The axle will not be bent from just sitting on a flat tire.

A tune up would be suggested, however like I said it's not a must. If you have the extram money, go ahead and do a tune up while they are working on the car.
