I''m trying to change the brake pads on a 94
Sent to Car Experts May 03 02:42 AM

I''m trying to change the brake pads on a 94 Saturn SL. I was able to remove the top bolt on the caliper (I think its the caliper). The bottom bolt is very stiff. I removed the top bolt and loosened the bottom bolt, and I thought it would just swing open, but it doesn''t. What am I missing?

Optional Information:
1994 SL SL 1.9 L

Already Tried:
Unscrewing top bolt on caliper then loosening bottom bolt, but it won't open

Tim,

It is not uncommon for theses bolts to feel extremely tight. The slide setup on this style builds corrosion in the slide pin hole and compresses the rubber lock pin boot against the bolt. You will have to work at it to get it out. Loosen a little, then back towards tight, repeat getting it further out each time. You may end up needing a new lock pin boot since it is made out of rubber. If you can get the boot out of the caliper support without damage it will be fine. Once it is out clean the hole out so that the pin bolt will move easily with the boot installed.

Here is a pic of the caliper assembly so you know you have the correct bolts.
