it does not line up with letters inside car and will not go forward enough to go into park.

O.k. on your vehicle the shift indicator is a one piece plastic slide that is connected around the base of the shift lever. If you look at the base of the lever you should see a plastic cover that moves when you move the handle through the gears. That piece also has a indicator attached to it so you can tell what gear you are in. Unfortunatly you have to replace the unit, it is not adjustable. You may be able to find it at a dismantler. It should inexpensive and it is easy to replace. Thanks, Joe
