puzzled about brakes

i have a 98 dodge caravan. i recently had a $500 brake job done. the squeeking is gone but now everytime i brake
there is a series of knocking sounds coming from what seems like just on the other side of the steering column

 It appears you have a rotor either installed incorrectly or distorted from incorrect resurfacing. It will need to be inspected with the wheels off to determine which one is causing it but I can pretty confidently say the problem is in the brake work.
