how to determine if the battery is bad or the alternator is bad?

battery light came on 3 days ago (battery only 2.5 years old)   driving down the road all the lights started to go dark, headlights deminsihing, blower motor slowing down, etc

at the battery i'm getting 11 volts, but where do i check the alternator? the the positive terminal on the back of alternator and that is also reading 11 volts.

Just a thought, I had a similar problem on a Camaro a while back, and it turned out to be the voltage regulator that was bad.
