i have a pontiac grand prix 97 with transmission trouble

i have a pontiac grand prix 97 and it just started to shift funny in second gear all other gears shift smooth but now when in second it wont shift till the rpms get to about 5000 rpm it keeps shifting higher and higher changed the fluids and still having problems the fluid keeps on burning smells bad any ideas if its a sensor or might be internal damage

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: the fluid is full and the car has 91000 highway miles on it the funny part is it would just start shifting a little higher each time not a noticable thing till it got up to 3500 rpms when i would be going around town

The transmssion is probably smoked then.The 97 4t60e trans was not very good sad to say.The 96 and 98 were far better in my opinion.You can check to see if the hose is on the vacuum modulator but it should cause a late 1-2 shift also.Here is a picture of it so you can check yourself.You should have the codes read because it's possible it's a shift solenoid but I wouldn't get my hopes up with the history of that transmission.
