The tensioner is spring loaded and is pulled forward with a Serpentine Belt tool. This tool should be available at most automotive part stores, and is fairly inexpensive. Basically, it's a long/ thin bar with a socket on one end, that fits onto the tensioner. The length of the bar, gives the leverage needed to compress the internal spring.
