1990 plymouth voyagor....v-6....trys to stop running

when i pull out it changes gears fine...when out of the road its starts acting like it running outta gas..if i put the gas pedal to the floor it runs..but when i try just to drive normal it starts losing power and then its like it running outta gas...i have a hole in the muffler...it has a clean air cleaner and crankcase filter..its idles fine.....i let it sit and its running fine now but will start again when i least expect it....

when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? service interval is 12K-14K miles.
