I have a 1987 Cadilac deville 4.1 front wheel drive ...

I have a 1987 Cadilac deville 4.1 front wheel drive and want to know why it is burning out ignition modules in the distributor every six to twelve months. I have tried after market modules and am now using gerneral motors or ac delco modules. If there is a procedure to check this sout or if there is an easy answer please let me know.
