Hi, welcome to jA.

  • What year, make, and model is your vehicle?
  • How many miles are on it?
  • Is the check engine lamp on? Was it on before?

1997 900 S 2.3L engine. ECU original is at 124k Miles the replacement ECU is at 84K miles. Same car 900S 2.3L 1997 Auto.

Enginge changed at 107K 1996 longblock with about the same mileage. Passed IM inspection that year. Small oil leak that may have ended up on the catalyst and the sensor attached to the catalyst. (did not change that one yet).

MIL light was on and reset by s shop the codes were realted to the o2 sensor. MIL light came on again after about 500 to 600 miles and I reset it again and then it would not pass inspection eventhough i ahve bee driving the car several 100's of miles varied conditions. Inclusding highway speeds up to 80 Mph. Stop and go traffic included.
The MIL light is off now and the ODB sacnner tells me that the light is off as well. The light comes on when I turn the key and then it goes off when I start the engine.

Car runs great and it is more powerful and have a better pickup than before which to me indicates it is running richer but not to rich. I have occationally smeelled some gasoline smell in the car eitherjust after starting the engine or after shutting it down.

When I changed the ECU the car was running rough for about 10 to 15 miles and then it ran fine again.

The only pass codes I get on the PA report is: Fuel Cap integrity: PAss
Mil Bulb KOEO: PASS
MIL BULB KOER: PASS
The Following receive N/A
Air Inj System
EGR System
PCV System
Catalytic Converter
EVAP
Fuel Inlet Resistor
MIL Command Status
ODB Fault Code Result
ODB-IM Result

ODB REadinsess Result: FAIL

Overall Results : Not REady For Testing
Today we did not change the O2 sensor we can't the the check ening light to come on.

We disconnected the battery and put in the old ECU.

The following showed uo ready when we tested the car directly after switching back to the old ECU.

Misfire
Fuel Syst
Components

We connected a diagnostic tool and it could not read any codes it froze when it tried to read the codes.

Computer parts should be the same but I will double check. The result is the same from both computers on the Emmissions testing system.

I think it said Matco on my technicians tool.(It's a read box as large as two pocket books 4 or 5 line display)

The oxygen sensor monitor should pass as soon as the PCM knows the heater is operational. If any oxygen sensor has failed, the monitor will not clearl; but it will also set the check engine lamp. You stated the lamp is no longer comming on with the key on? Is this correct?

The check Engine lamp is coming on when I turn on the ignition. When I start the engine it hesitates but it turns off.

The confusing part is that several monitors that should have stated not ready after a poweroff of almost a week stated that they were ready for testing. But the o2 sensor the o2 heat the evap and the Cat reades incomplete.

That happened with both computers.

What is an acceptable resistance and should the sensor be hot or cold?

I just wanted to let you know that I'm not a cheap guy. I like to get this solved. I know that your time is worth money and I have no problems paying you more than the posted money to solve the issue.
