Hello
It sounds like the shift-fork which is located internally in the transmission is either "broken or bent". On some transmissions you can gain access through the top of the transmission. You can look at the top part of the transmission to see if there is a series of bolts you can remove to gain access. The shifter itself could have broke. This sometimes happens when we force the gear shift, even if done by accident. You won't know how much damage has been done until you either remove the transmission or try to gain access from the top. We have in the past "neatly" cut a hole on top and later seamed it back together. It's an option!
Good Luck!
Dan
