What causes a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera to stall, when you abruptly apply the brakes? After the stall, the car starts right up and the car runs smoothly.

If the brake booster one way valve is bad it wil cause this.

Try plugging the brake booster vacuum line with a bolt and try to see if the car does it again. If it doesn't then pull the one way valve inline and check it. It should allow passage of air in one direction only. When they go bad they basically create a huge vacuum leak for the engine via the brake booster and the engine cannot keep the idle up and it dies.

Reply to Kyle Northrop's Post: Thank you for your response. I am going to press accept but I was wondering if you knew approximately how much the brake booster would cost to replace.

Again, thank you for your quick response.

I was talking about a valve, not the whole booster. Prices depend on where you live but ballpark for that valve is like 20 bucks. Let me know if you need more help.
