Question

1995 Oldsmobile Cutless Ciera,

Sent to Car Experts July 13, 2006 8:48 p.m.

I have a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutless Ciera, I'm having trouble restarting it after I shut it off and it doesn't get that hot. I recently replaced the tension spring, belt and fuelpump. I'm thinking it's the 02 sensor or the brain box or whatever it's really called. Where are these parts located on the car and where is the thermastat located?

Optional Information:

Here is where we need to decide if you have ignition or fuel loss.
You state you already have a new fuel pump, is it for this very reason, and more importantly is it an OEM pump? or aftermarket.
Even though you may not agree I want to rule out fuel pressure first.
You may be able to rent a fuel pressure gauge from your local parts store and connect it to the service port located on the "Fuel rail", this will be a large horse shoe shaped tube up high on the engine with a threaded port.
We would like to see 35psi key on before you even start cranking.

WHEN THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP HE REFUSED TO USE AN AFTER MARKET PART AND HE FELT THE PRESSURE WAS FINE. THIS WAS ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO. ARE YOU ABLE TO PROVIDE A PHOTO OF THE ENGINE SO I CAN GET A VISUAL? NOT ONLY FOR THE FUEL PORT BUT OF THE BRAIN BOX AND 02 SENSOR? I DON'T HAVE THE TOOLS TO FIX MUCH, ON A TIGHT BUDGET. REPLACING PARTS THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR CAN BE COSTLY. BEFORE I TAKE MY CAR TO A MECHANIC I LIKE TO RELATE THE PROBLEM TO THE MECHANIC . SMALL TOWN, LOT OF SHADE TREE MECHANICS. PLEASE REPLY.

Ok for now we can assume, the fuel pressure is ok.
The O2 sensor/s will be located in the exhaust manifolds and near the catylitic converter.
The only possible way I can think of a O2 sensor causing your concern would be a short to power from the heater circuit to the input circuit to the ECU, you can unplug the sensors and retest, yes it will turn on the check engine light.
Those cars can have the ECU either located under the hood on the right frame rail, or under the dash on the right side.
The fuel test port will be found I think at the firewall side of the intake manifold.
I don't really dare use other's pictures for concern over Copyright laws.
I hope I was of some help.
