I have a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 2.8 engine. It was running just fine when i shut off after i got home one night and the next morning when i went out to go to work, it would turn over but would not start....Acts like it's out of gas and i KNOW it's not (i have over a 1/4 tank). Any ideas on where to start? Why all of a sudden like that? Do fuel pumps go out just like that? P.S. the fuel pressure release? up by the air filter - i unscrewed and pushed down and there is gas coming up there so i know it can't be the fuel filter right? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Stephanie sbulkeley9903@aol.com

You need to first test a few functions during the failure.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If

none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with

the key on.

2) Test for injecter pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If

none found, check for power supply at one side of the injecter with

the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also

noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Here's what the noid light looks like.
