Wife has a 97 Mitsubishi Galant, 4 cyl automatic, all service done on schedule, 103,000 miles. Driving in evening last week lights dimmed some, radio cut off and on, and when I stopped the car, all power and electrical went out. Put in Park turned off all electrical things and restarted, OK for a few days. Now it recently started to buck and slow down and the engine light went on and off, radio on and off, but got home. Dealer put in a new ignition switch assembly with the door buzzer and other parts, $200 repair, still has same problem but dealer can not get it to act up?? they think its the distributor??
any thoughts or cures??
thanks   Marty

Reply to Bill's Post: battery is good, no codes showing, check engine light is not on, just came on and off as it happened sporadically driving on Sunday for about 10 miles, did not cut off this time but she does not want to drive it till its fixed. Dealer drove it 40 miles, with no problems, cant get it to do it again.

As I said codes should be stored if not you need to check for loss off power. I.E. altenator, battery, and connections first. Are they original?

Reply to Bill's Post: No codes were stored when the dealer checked, all parts are origional, except the battery which i will recheck but had 13.5 v. Alternator shows 14.5 v charge rate.

a couple of things to try. one is if you have a spare key use that and see if it persists. If a coded key and "worn" may trigger alarm. Next is the infamous wiggle test. Basically when car is running start wiggling wires and see if you can recreate scenario. Looking for bad connection. This is difficult where it is itermittent. There is no gauge for alt. just a light?
