I owna Mitsubishi 1991 Galant Coupe bought from new. It has been trouble free. The hand book states 'Caution: Do not try and raise one window and lower the opposite one at the same time. The windows will not operate'
After 15 years I have inadvertently done just that and all electric windows will now not operate. The handbook does not offer any remedy should one make such a follish mistake. Can anyone advise what to do next? There are no fuses listed in ther book for the windows and no evidence on fuse covers inside car or under bonnet
Tony

Additional info Tony

Your power window relay is powered by a fusible link and by fuse number 2 (under dash). If either of these are bad they need to be replaced. This information and the previous information is for a system without ETACS.

The fuses for a system with ETACS are the same fusible link under the engine hood, as well as fuses 9 and 17 under the dash. Check the fuses first to be sure none are blown. If the fuses are good get back to me so we can get this worked out.

Thank you

Dave

Did you realise this is a right hand drive UK model car? I had already checked ervery fuses with an AVO and they are all OK. They are not numbered but all are clearly defined. There is not a fuse specifically marked up for pwer windows. All fuses are very clearly marked

Morning Tony

If all the fuses are good as you state, there is still a possibility of a bad fusible link. To check for power pull the power window relay from the relay box under the hood. With the key in the run position check for power at the relay connections. There should be two pins with power. If you only have one pin with power you have a bad fuse/fusible link. (Fusible links are located near the starter.)

If you have power at two pins at the relay, reinstall the relay. Then check for power at the motor. You need to hit the switch to move the window up or down to check for power. One wire will power for up , and the other will power up for down. If you have power for both, and the motor does not move you probably have blown window motor. To verify the motor is bad, hard wire the window to a battery. Disconnect the connector to the window motor and conect the power and ground to each pin and then reverse the connections. to see if the window moves up and down.

Let me know what you find

Dave
