2002 Mercury Mountaineer- There is a loud tapping noise with the rear air on and I can feel a tap on the plastic housing surrounding the rear heater core. The tapping does not change regardless of the fan speed What could this be? The air is working fine.

Does it change from hot to cold. It sounds as if you have a broken blend door or blend door acuator. It you can not get any heat when you change the temp on the selector then the acuator of the blend door is the problem. I hope this helps
