I have a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis. V8 5.0L with 56k miles ...

I have a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis. V8 5.0L with 56k miles automatic tranny. When driving or idling it stutters, if I pour on the throttle it does not stutter, it only shows these symptoms when at cruising speed whther it is 70 mph or 30 mph and never when excelerating?
