In our Mercury Mounteneer, when we put on the heat/cool system there is a noise (behind the dash board?) similar a motor either being loose or touching something. The noise becomes a rattle when the flow is set to 4 (high). What is it due to and how bad is the problem?

It sounds like the blower motor is going bad. It's possible a leaf or a piece of paper got in it and is causing the noise also. The blower motor is not a very big job. Most of the time they are under the right side of the dash or under the hood on the passenger side.
